Business is an interesting field. It is a real world. Writing about business reflects that real world.
Introduction to Business was designed as a comprehensive textbook for the freshman classes of the business schools in Turkey. It does not say anything new, but already known topics and issues in the business life. However, a careful reader may find some hints or propositions about the way to conduct the business properly throughout the book.

The book has five goals:
– Current and comprehensive in the field of business; The beginners in business will find all aspects of business in an adequate size and form which enable them to know “..What’s up there in business…”
– Local within the global context; The book includes cases, institutions, and practises from the Turkish business life. However all these local focuses are discussed within the context of globalization in mind.
– Understandable; This book is intended to be written for Turkish business students who are taught in English. Therefore the majority of words used throughout the book have been chosen among the limited Spoken English within 3000 words.
– Concise; It is designed to be a concise companion for beginers to be completed in one-term course. It is lean and focused. Having the 15 week-academic term in mind, all topics are placed into 15 chapters within 418 pages.

– Colorful and amusing; In order to attract and capture the excitement some works of classics in a brief and conversational writing style are included in the book. Throughout the book, readers will find some practises of business and management in the works of the Classics.

The organization of the Book
This book can be studied and completed in one academic term. Therefore it covers all related subjects in 15 chapters.

The first part covers three chapters:
– First chapter is about the business in general,
– The seond chapter covers how to form a business unit, and,
– The third chapter is about the business in global markets.

The second part has nine chapters and includes the important business functions.
– Fourth and fifth chapters cover the topics in Management,
– The sixth and seventh chapter covers Human Resources managemenet.
– Eight and ninth chapters is about the Accounting and Financing activities.
– Operations management is discussed in the tenth chapter.
– Eleventh and twelfth chapters cover the Marketing activities.

The third part consists of 3 chapters covers the related topics and new concerns of business;
– Business is very dependent on the Economics and topics in Economics and its related
institutions discussed in the chapter 13.
– Social responsibility, Ethics and Law is placed in chapter 14.

– The last chapter fifteen covers the new concerns in Business such as, Globalization,
Information Technology, E-Commerce, Virtual Organizations, Total Quality
Management, and Innovation management.
Each chapter includes one or several “From the Business Life” boxes that focus on necessarry
additional information about the topics, practises and institutions relevant with the chapter
All chapters have “Learn from the Classics” boxes which serve the students with some business practises mentioned in the Classical works. A reader will have some colorful and amusing aspects and samples of business and management practises in the highly acknowledged works of Shakespeare, Homer, Virgil, Darwin, Ömer Seyfettin, Abdülhak Şinasi Hisar, John Steinbeck, Orhan Kemal etc.
Few “Interesting to Know” boxes and appendixes include both practical and amusing information and samples of real business practises relevant with the chapter contents. The book has Instructor’s manual (Text and Drawings) available for the instructors. In this manual main text of the book is summarized in 30 pages and includes drawings, graphics, and exhibits in PP format
